Rumors of return: Mercedes McLaren latest purchase
No comment. That is the response of the public relations department of Mercedes-Benz in response to rumours that indicate their intention to take McLaren, the company already owns 40% of the shares. The news comes courtesy of Auto Motor und Sport, and suggests that not only Mercedes is considering the acquisition but that the contract is ready and waiting for signatures.
The 60% of McLaren who is not in the hands of Mercedes belongs to Ron Dennis, his partner of Mansour Ojjeh Saudis (15% each), and Bahrain Mumtalakat consortium, which owns 30%. Daimler, therefore, is the major shareholder, although he would like to have full control of the company should negotiate with the rest of the partners or gain more than 50% of the shares stroke book.
McLaren currently manufactures the SLR for Mercedes, but the next superdeportivo of Germans will be the responsibility of HWA. Meanwhile, McLaren still working on the P11. They confirmed the agreement, the British would become the team’s internal Daimler, in the manner of BAR and Honda or BMW and Sauber.
